Activation
An invitation,
by Jess Rowley and Jenny Hawkinson
Jess
Whether you are sitting, standing, or lying down, find a space where you can ground yourself. Take a deep breath in through your nose, and exhale gently through your mouth. Feel the breath as it moves through your body, entering cool at first, and becoming warm as you release it.
Jenny
As you continue breathing, guide your awareness towards the internal sounds and rhythms you create. Your heartbeat, pumping the vital energy within you. Can you feel your blood, like tributaries, flowing to every part of your body? This life force absorbing and moving, like ripples travelling through your cells.
Engage with the force of water within you. Imagine your veins as streams, and recall the gentle sound of a brook.
Follow the brook as it merges into a larger river. The river plunges over a waterfall—listen to the roar of cascading water, the blood pouring into the cavernous atrium of your heart.
Together
Feel the power of nature. [Pause]
Rivers carving through canyons. [Pause]
Waves crashing into jetties. [Pause]

session 6 'To listen, to listen'
[EN] How can we listen to waters? How can sound making / deep listening / sonic reverberations challenge constructs and practices of political economies, financial capitalism, dispossession and extraction? How can both sonic, audible, and material sound practices reclaim, manifest, resonate?
This activation is shaped in conversation with the first cohort of Tidal Diaries students, and led by two of our students Jess Rowley and Jenny Hawkinson. Animation by Jenny Hawkinson.

Tune in to the currents within your body.
Notice where your skin—this vessel that contains 60% water—makes contact with the world. Start from your toes and move upwards.
Jess
Now, hold a shell (or a cup) to your ear. Bathe in the ambient sounds that surround you.
Work in harmony with these sounds, paying attention to how your senses are heightened. Feel the warmth of the vessel against your ear.
What sounds can you hear? Is there a melody, a pulse, a song? Hum, tap, or express this sound together as a chorus after the count of three...
Together
Remember this sensation
As you place the shell down, absorb the sounds of your internal sea, and let this guide you through the remainder of the session.
